Store clerk: Why is it a big deal if it doesn't play on your computer?
Me: Well, it should!
Store clerk: Well, I'm sorry, it's already been opened. It can't be returned unless you exchange it for the same movie title.
Me: I don't want the same title. It will act the same way!
Bluh ... after they hand you the new copy .... hand it back and say, "I'd like to return this unopened DVD. It doesn't work."
They'll ask "How do you know?"
And you can say ... "I looked it up on the internet and it doesn't comply with the DVD standard, so because it's labelled with the DVD logo, it's actually false advertising and is not as advertised. I understand there are laws against false and misleading advertising."

Admitting that you've illegally downloaded movies/songs and need help to process/burn is comparable to robbing a bank, and walking into the bank the next day holding the bags of money to deposit them into your account.

Don't be surprised if people laugh at you when you make the headlines.
