For that matter, the same applies to burners in computers. I've seen PC's with doors that cover up the drive bays, and there are no electronics to inform the drive when the door is closed. They too can be damaged by auto-opening.
I have no objections to having an option to auto eject a burner (with the default set to no-ejection), but unless there is a menu option on the disc itself for this action, please don't do it during playback. | There is already this facility in the common settings. Once on this page goto DVD write page last box at bottom Don't eject disc once burned.
