Are we talking about payback on the PC or after it's burned to DVD & on a standalone player?

If the trouble in on the PC , what sort of spec PC do you have? Have you defragged the HDD recently & is the HDD running in Ultra DMA mode 5/6 correctly?

You have to remember that once converted from an avi file that the bitrate is significantly higher so the amount of data being moved around is just so much more. Any deficiency in the PC , like slow graphics card , will become all too obvious.
