I don't know about any of the other "stuff", but this works for me. I have RipIt4Me and DvdFab both installed on my computer. I use ImgBurn to burn all my DVD's, it never fails, it was written by the guy who wrote DvdDecrypter. Between these programs I am able to back up everything I need to. I do movie only as I watch moviesw on an 80" screen thru a LCD projector at 1080i. I would recomend getting the least if no compression if you can because when you get that HD TV all the artifacts wuill be visable. Good luck.
