| Re: Mississippi outlaws sex toys. The ban is intended to hurt "sex shops" and is not much different than the bans in a dozen other states. As for the casinos, they're illegal in most states and only allowed off-shore because of the riverboat loophole. They were also supposed to be able to be moved out of the path of a hurricane, but for some reason they stopped doing that after a half-dozen false alarms and really paid the price. Well, if you pay federal income tax, you're paying the price...
FYI, casinos contribute a little tax revenue but take ten times that from the locals; they were only popular because of the tourism money. Whatever tax revenue they produce, the state government manages to make disappear just like it did the tobacco settlement. The Casinos are starting to reopen, now allowed to build on shore, and I'm sure you folks will be glad to know that after paying to rebuild them, your federal tax dollars will continue to go to the casinos, except now with an extra step: through FEMA. |
