ISP's typically rate internet connections in terms of bits... not bytes... This makes a very big difference in real world numbers. In a perfect world, 384kbs would equal 48KB/s, however no one ever get's the full amount because of overhead. My 384kbs upload connection typically runs at 320kbs after factoring for overhead.
It isn't a good idea to devote all of your upload speed to torrenting. Leave some of it available for browsing, email etc. etc. It might also be a good idea to reduce the number of uploads, as it will only take longer to upload multiple files than if you were to just upload one at a time.
