The real question is, given DRM on HD content, what will you be able to do with such a burner? The answer is probably: not much. Data discs will be about the only thing you can do, apart from authoring/upconverting your own video into a 1080i format. But we don't really know if the first HD/BD players will play recordable discs either.

So you're currently looking at a format that will cost many times more, per GB, to store data than current DVD does.
