5.What chipsets are LG writers based on?
Most LG writers use chipsets made by either Renesas or Panasonic. The following is a short list of known chipsets used in various models :
- GSA-4120B/4160B : Renesas R8J32005FP
- GSA-4163B/5163D : Renesas R8J32006FPV
- GSA-4165B/4167B : Renesas R8J32007FPV
- GSA-H10A : Renesas R8J32018FPV
- GSA-H/E10L : Renesas R8J32018FPV*
- GSA-H/E10N : Renesas R8J32018FPV*
- GSA-H12N : Renesas R8J32018FPV
- GSA-4164B/4166B : Panasonic MN103SA6GSJ
- GSA-H20L : Panasonic MN103SB4GSA
- GSA-H20N : Panasonic MN103SB4GSA#
- GSA-H22N : Panasonic MN103SD2GSA
- GSA-H30N : Panasonic MN103SC0GSA
- GSA-H42N : Renesas R8J32021HFPV
- GSA-H44N : Renesas R8J32021HFPV
- GSH-H62N : Renesas R8J32022HFPV
- GSH-H62L : Renesas R8J32022HFPV
- GSA-H50N : Panasonic MN103SC7GRT1
- GSA-H55N : Panasonic MN103SC7GRT1
- GH-20NS10 : Renesas R8J32030HFPV
- GH-22NP20 : Panasonic MN103SD8GRA
- GH-22NS30 : Panasonic MN103SD8GRA
*Please note that while the chipset for the H10N/L is known, the chipset used for the E10N/L has not been confirmed. These drives show many characteristics in the way they work that are identical to the H10N/L so it is a reasonable guess. Confirmation cannot be given until someone actually opens up their E10N/L units to check the chipset used, or when LG releases a firmware update.
OEM models may not use the same chipsets as their retail versions, even though the model number (4 or 2-digit number to the right of GSA/GWA/GMA) is the same.
(Thanks to 2601 for getting hold of so many new models and graciously opening them up and snapping photos of the chipsets)
Code:
#The H20N has been successfully cross flashed with H20L firmware,
which suggests the two drives use the same chipset. Again, no one
can fully confirm this until the drive is opened and the actual chipset
used is examined. See here for more information :
