One of the problems is eac says my 1640 does not report c2 errors and I am pretty sure that is not right.

Have you tried to configure the drive options for the 1640? If so, what does it tell you about c2 errors and cache and Accurate stream feature.
Yep, I done that. I've got EAC 0.95 Beta 4 now, and it says:
Accurate stream: yes;
Caching: yes;
C2: no.
But, anyways, it grabs well (at least for my ear ).
BTW, I try to enable "offset correction" feature, but still can't find the right CD that fits . I try Joe Satriani's "Surfing..." and Jeff Beck's three last CDs, but they're "not in the database". Which CD will fits for "offset correction"?
