| Re: Copying DL discs. mwh27,
A backup will almost always play from computer or the drive that created it. So it is not a valid test. The only valid test is your standalone DVD player.
Never heard of "smae" (or is that a misspelling?) brand media. Budget stuff? With the poorer quality media, even disks bought on the same spindle can vary in quality. So one playing and one not playing does make sense. New members often think their problem is software or hardware related but take convincing that their issue is really a poor grade of media and everything else is working fine.
Buy some Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim at online stores
EDIT Change: <<or if you are shopping at a retail store, get the Sony brand media.>> (Mistake: Sony does not make DL media to my knowledge).
90% probability that your problem is poor quality backup media and/or too fast a burning speed. Try burning good SL blanks at 4X. DL blanks are even safer if burned at 2X. And I'll bet they all work on your standalone player.
