Depends. Xvid for example is open source software, so we could simply check in a bugfix there (if we find a solution).
On the other hand, if we can modify our products to work better with 3rd party tools, we will do that. It improves the customer's experience and frees support resources: You don't need to tell customers "for this to work, you need to upgrade to version ... of product ..."
Not to mention that the support crew would be required to be informed about various 3rd party tools. It is much simpler to tell the customer "use the newest
AnyDVD. Come back, if you still have problems."
