RCE (Regional Coding Enhancement) is a type of protection which some studios have placed on some R1 DVDs to prevent them from playing on region-free or multi-region players. In general, DVDs released in each region will play in that region only, thus the need for removal of RCE protection, if present, if you want to play any region DVDs.
