good post abrown15.
Since TheHamster was assessing
CloneDVD on the CloneDVD threads, I thought I'd keep it to that program. Since DVDDecrypter is no longer being updated and gets confused about some of the new invalid sector/block protections now showing up on new releases, I didn't bring up DVDDecrypter. But since it is free, it is indeed a good alternative for certain troublesome movies. And, believe it or not, the final 321 Studios version of the
original DVD-X-Copy (v.1.5.2) found the layer break flawlessly (but only for splits, DL didn't exist yet). But then they F'd Up a promising future by ending development on the original DXC and coming out with "Express" and "Platinum" which were both abominations. Lost revenue (needed for legal fees) from issuing those problem programs and, subsequently being US based
and taking on the well financed MPAA in a lawsuit led to 321's demise.
I, myself, never went for all the the freeware stuff like Decrypter and Shrink, etc, and I didn't wan't to clutter up my dedicated backup box with possible conflicting programs. I just figured I'd wait a bit for CloneDVD to update their layer break point logic.
I'd sure like to see someone from Elby or Slysoft jump onto this thread. They probably are shy to expound on the next version of CloneDVD since I have not even heard a hint about a beta yet. Put me on the list if you want testers because with DL media prices dropping, I'm almost ready to give up splitting and transition 100% to DL backups.
