The playback issues you're experiencing can be from a variety of things. Definitely look in to the booktype issue, mentioned by larry. Also, as polian discovered, poor quality media or incompatible media (this means intermittent problems as well) and too fast burn speeds are lead suspects re: the problems you're having. Recommend no faster than 4X and you may want to burn to an rw until you're finished experimenting and this is resolved.
