another method i have been using lately is:

1. convert mp3s to wav using dbPoweramp music converter. use the dsp remove silence option from begining & end

2. compile & burn the audio CD using Veritas Recordnow DX 4.6 OR Stomp Recordnow MAX 4.5. both will use no gaps as default
